Come one, come all to lovely Cary, North Carolina… and bring your stretchy pants. This weekend, the Triangle-area city is hosting its second-annual celebration of a beloved Southern delicacy: pimento cheese.
Cary’s 2019 Pimento Cheese Festival will take place Saturday from 11am to 4pm. Food trucks from local eateries will line Academy Street where they’ll be serving up free samples of pimento cheese in addition to their regular menu items.
When you’re not busy sampling pimento cheese, you can grab a pint (or two) from local breweries, take in some live music, and test your skill in the pimento cheese sculpting contest. There will also be a special appearance from renowned cheese sculptor Sarah “The Cheese Lady” Kaufmann. Yes, really.
As far as the festival’s chief organizer, Ryan O’Quinn, knows, it’s the only festival of its kind in America.
“This is the only pimento cheese festival that we could find,” O’Quinn told the News & Observer last year. “There were a few events that had pimento cheese events with them but nothing that focused just on pimento cheese.”
